NCI - Food Safety Squad
The Food Safety Squad comprises a dynamic team of young professionals aged between 15 and 25 years old, dedicated to ensuring the safety and quality of our food supply. Under the auspices of the Nutrition Council of India, our mission is to safeguard public health by promoting best practices in food safety and hygiene.
Need
In India alone, there are an estimated 100 million foodborne illnesses every year, resulting in an average of 120,000 deaths.
A 2022 review by the FSSAI found a marked increase in the detection of food adulteration cases over the years, from just 15% in 2012 to 28% in 2019.
