Bridging Science and Practice: NCI and Era University Organise Workshop on Clinical and Medical Nutrition

The Nutrition Council of India , in collaboration with the Department of Food and Nutrition, Era University, successfully organised an Advanced Certificate Workshop on Clinical and Medical Nutrition under the NCI-NNEP Initiative at the Mini Auditorium, Era University, Lucknow. The workshop was held under the visionary leadership of Dr. Kshitij Bhardwaj, Chairman, NCI, and Dr. Shipra Bhardwaj, Joint Secretary and Trustee, NCI, who aim to promote evidence-based nutrition education and professional skill development across India.

The workshop aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical understanding and clinical application of nutrition science, empowering professionals, dietitians, and students with the latest evidence-based knowledge and practical skills in therapeutic nutrition.

The inaugural session began with a warm welcome and introduction by Dr Kahkashan Parvin, Head, Department of Food and Nutrition, Era University, followed by insightful sessions by eminent experts in the field. Dr. Anjali (Dr. Giri Lal Gupta Institute of Public Health and Public Affairs, University of Lucknow) opened the academic sessions by discussing the Foundations of Clinical and Medical Nutrition-Assessment and Applications. This was followed by Dr Nitin Ranjan Gupta (Professor, Department of Medicine, Hind Institute of Medical Sciences), who delivered an engaging talk on Holistic Nutrition: Merging Spiritual Well-being with Scientific Nutrition Principles.

Dr Ritu Singh (RD), Consultant Nutritionist at Jagrani Hospital, Lucknow, spoke on Medical Nutrition Therapy and Disease-Specific Approaches for Chronic and Metabolic Disorders, while Dt. M. Bamini, Chairperson of the RD Board, Indian Dietetic Association, discussed Advancements in Clinical Research and Nutritional Science.

After the expert sessions, a special NCI session was conducted to guide, encourage, and create awareness among the youth about the Nutrition Council of India, its initiatives, and the NCI-NNEP program, emphasising the importance of evidence-based nutrition education and professional collaboration in the field.

The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from nutrition professionals, healthcare practitioners, researchers, and students, providing an interactive platform for learning and professional networking.

The organising committee included Dr. Minhaj Akhtar Usmani, Dr. Shipra Srivastava, Dr. Shikha Singh, Dr. Sana Afreen, Dr. Ankita Johary, Ms. Mahajabeen Fatima, and Ms. Zara Khalil. The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Jyoti Yadav and Dt Varsha Dixit from NCI-IFNH, and concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Aparna Srivastava, Organising Secretary, acknowledging the valuable contributions of speakers, participants, and collaborators.
